“What we know”
Should men have the right to say what a woman does or doesn’t do with her body? First, let’s state what we know about the new abortion law. My understanding is the new bill states, “It prohibits women from having an abortion once a doctor detects a heartbeat”.(Which, is usually around six weeks into a pregnancy.) It also allows a district attorney to seek a murder charge against anyone who violates the heartbeat bill. If a doctor performs the abortion he/she can face up to 99 years in prison. The woman bearing the child can face up to a maximum of 10 years in prison.
What does abortion mean to some men, “No child support and a saving grace from promiscuous situations whether you were protected or not etc” if you fall in this category please don’t consider yourself to have a say in anything dealing with women’s rights. There is a war against women and against womens rights. It’s being orchestrated by old white guys in suits, who want our women to live in an era of submitting their bodies against their will. An era that mimics the best selling novel by, Margaret Atwood and Tv series’s “The handmaid’s tale”.
The story of the novel that we are currently living in 2019 depict women being the property of the state. Forced against their will to become “cattle” that carry and birth babies without their consent. Next women will be forced Into sexual servitude with no rights to their own bodies. which means your wife will be fair game to any man. This is so unjust on so many levels. This isn’t the “Land of the free” that they teach us about all throughout school.
With the flick of the pen, our lives have changed and the lives of the women we love have changed. Our Mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, aunts all are subjected to possibly one day having to carry a child conceived of rape or Incest, In order to prevent facing jail time that supersedes that of the rapist. This is just the tip of the iceberg. What do you think will happen to contraceptive, birth control and the morning after pill? These two will disappear and fall under the explanation of being “pro-life”. It makes no sense that the same individuals that speak “pro-life” are also pro-death penalty, pro-healthcare repeal, and pro unrestricted gun laws just to name a few. How can these same individuals have the best interest of our women in mind?
“A bigger picture”
With myself being apart of the minority I can’t help but think of how this will affect the women minority as well. This will label minority women convicted felons if they choose to go against the new abortion law. Yes, all women that commit the crime of abortion will be convicted felons but in my opinion, the weight of the title affects the minority community on a larger scale more than others. Unfortunately, for the minorities, this adds to the modern day oppression that we already face today.
With minority men sadly carrying the torch for the highest felony rate in America today, our numbers of actual and allowed minority voters during election time are already exceedingly low at the polls.
By adding brown colored minority women to this already crippling equation, doubls the numbers and it’s sure to keep minorities struggling to make a difference politically for years to come. Heading in this direction, and the impact it will have on minorities they can ultimately get rid of an entire class of people political over time.
Will this new law be equally applied to the governors, senators, congressmen or elected officials, whose to say. What happens to their “arranged” promiscuous relationship outside of their marriage, with willing women that get unexpectedly pregnant? We will never know.
So many unfair narratives can come to mind. Men, it’s time to be the backbone of our women and stand beside them and support the overturn and the prevention of this new law. That’s the only say and decision that we men should have in this fight. Support and stand up for what’s right for our women. By not standing up now for our women, it opens the door to more unjustly and wrongly justified changes. Slavery, home restriction, and segregation are all topics that can possibly fall back on the table by not standing and supporting what’s right. So I ask you, are you ready for that.
